Located 300km away from Calcutta, the bustling capital
of West Bengal, the Vidyapith is a quiet and serene, almost mystical, abode
of thousands of students, monks, teaching and non-teaching staff. The picture
above is that of the Bhajan (prayer) Hall - a rare combination of
Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic architecture. There are altogether five hostels
(called Sadan), two school buildings, one library, one auditorium,
staff residential quarters, monks' quarters, administrative offices, a
zoo, a lake, a farmhouse, and twenty two playgrounds spread over 100 acres
of land.
I got admitted in the Vidyapith in the year 1979 in class
IV. In Sivananda Sadan, a stayed at Birajananda and Trigunatitananda
Dhams. Eventually, I passed out from Matri Sadan in 1986. Below
are some of the snaps I took way back in 1986 - gives some idea how splendid
the building architectures are: |
